Welcome to this week’s blog. Today I am sharing one of my favorite prayers straight from Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (NIV).
Why do I find this scripture (prayer) important to share with my readers? Because if you are like me, my first desire in this world is to follow the Lord, His biblical commandments, and His commands for my life. Sharing the gospels through my books and blogs is my greatest joy. The more I learn the spiritual truth of the gospels, the more I want to share the good news. God’s fatherly advice, and His discipline can be found throughout the Bible. Who knows what’s best for our lives, if not our Heavenly Father, our Creator?
The Bible is the most historical account of God’s word. There are parables, messages, fulfilled and unfulfilled prophecy throughout the pages of the Old and New Testaments. Some of the Bible’s parables make sense to some, but not for others! But our God is patient! The Bible establishes for all of us the best way for us to live out our lives, according to God’s Will, not our own. An example prayer is the Lord’s prayer when we recite “Our Father, who art in heaven, thy kingdom come, thy will be done...” If you’ve never made a commitment to opening a Bible, with the honest intent to read and study, and absorb God’s endless promises and messages throughout the Old and New Testaments, then it’s easy for you to lose interest and/or to find the Bible perplexing, confusing, and intimidating, and for many, a boring read. You have to be genuine in your commitment to learning the Bible.
But trust me when I say, if you devote yourself the desire to learn the purpose, and meaning of the Bible, and what it has to offer you in your life, it will be life changing. I promise! Once you go deep in study, you will begin to thirst for God’s word, and the meaning of His mystical messages. God’s word is intended for every nation and tribe (not just the Jewish decent as many believe). The Bible can truly can change anyone’s life. Many believe the Bible, and God’s covenant was written exclusively for the Israelite's, the Jewish people during the days of Moses. But this is incorrect knowledge of who the Bible is intended. God, numerous of times throughout the Bible, tells us that Bible is intended for both Jews and Gentiles, for all generations and across all nations.
How has the Bible changed my life? I know I am just one in millions of Christians whose life has changed from a life of darkness and despair, to a life of peace and joy. There was a time my fear alone to surrender my life to the Lord would ensure that I would remain ignorant. But when I fell to my knees, and surrendered my life of sin and mismanagement to the Lord, I had to learn to do what He tells me to do without questioning. It was only when my old life passed away that my new life with the Lord was offered to me. I left all that I had, and chose to follow Him! I had to get use to different, as my life would never be as it once was. What does the Lord want us to do? Jesus says, “Follow Me!” We should pay attention and take heed. If not now, when?
Here’ s one of God’s prayers and instructions in Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (NIV). . .
Hear, O Israel:
The LORD our God, the LORD is one.
Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.
Our Father in heaven is speaking to all of us through this prayer. His instructions are clear. I am guessing that most of your life you’ve been asleep. It’s time to wake up. Your life will never be the same. Why would any of us turn our cheek from our Father in heaven? He created each and every one of us. We didn’t choose Him, He chose us. This is the spirit of truth. Heart and mind worship are all that matters. Everything else will fall into place. His biblical promises are for each of us.
If you slowly read this prayer in Deuteronomy, you will find how simple and truthful God’s words really are. Many, without studying the Bible, have no clue how beautiful, and simple God’s words, instructions, and commandments really are. It’s quite simple, sincerely seek to understand, and He will give you understanding through wisdom.
He truly is not a complicated God when He speaks to us throughout the Bible. Today, my husband and I love reading the Bible daily because it feeds us, it nourishes our souls, and brings peace to our day. That is exactly one of His promises, “Follow Me,” and I will restore your soul, bring you peace, “My peace I leave you, my peace I give you.” Every day, every hour of our lives the Bible is there for us to learn.
Blessed are those who take refuge in God’s spiritual truths. Impress these commandments on your children, and your grandchildren. Talk about these commandments when you sit at home, and when you walk along the road. Pray this prayer when you lie down and when you get up. Let these commandments be symbols on your hands in all you do for others, and bind them on your forehead, always in your thoughts, and always in your mind.
Blessings until next week,
